Shake-table test on a historical masonry aggregate: prediction and postdiction using an equivalent-frame model

چکیده

Abstract Modeling the seismic response of historical masonry buildings is challenging due to many aleatory and epistemic uncertainties. Additionally, interaction between structural units further complicates predictions behavior unreinforced aggregates found throughout European city centers. This motivated experimental campaign on half-scale, double-leaf stone within SERA (Seismology Earthquake Engineering Research Infrastructure Alliance for Europe)—Adjacent Interacting Masonry Structures project. The included a blind prediction competition that provided participants with data materials, geometry, construction details, input. After test, actual input all recorded processed accelerations, base-shear, displacements were shared participants. Instead single analysis phase, we performed broader stochastic incremental dynamic analyses answer whether common assumptions aggregate modeling either fully coupled or completely separated yield safe behavior. We modeled as equivalent frames in OpenSEES using newly developed macroelement, which captures both in-plane out-of-plane failure modes. To simulate two units, implemented new material model applied it zero-length elements connecting units. Our results demonstrate importance explicitly non-linear connection probabilistic approaches when evaluating response. Although simplifications unit deterministic might produce conservative predicted peak ground acceleration, these simplified overlook likely damage stress calibrating parameters from quasi-static cyclic tests appropriate damping models.

Liquefaction Triggering Criterion Using Shake Table Test

Earthquake induced liquefaction in saturated granular soils is an important phenomenon causing severe damages. In order to minimize the ill-effects due to liquefaction, various lab tests, field tests are being used which assess the liquefaction potential. In the present study the shake table test has been used for assessing soil liquefaction of loose saturated cohesionless sand by simulating ea...

the relationship between eq, iq and test format: a study on test fairness

the major aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between iq, eq and test format in the light of test fairness considerations. this study took this relationship into account to see if people with different eq and iq performed differently on different test formats. to this end, 90 advanced learners of english form college of ferdowsi university of mashhad were chosen. they were ask...

A Reference Data Model for Neesgrid Shake Table Experiments

NEES (the George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation) is a national, networked resource for next-generation experimental earthquake engineering research and education in the United States. The goal of NEES is to support open access to and use of NEES’s facilities and data by the earthquake engineering community. The system infrastructure to support the NEES activities is...

The experience of agency: an interplay between prediction and postdiction

The experience of agency, i.e., the registration that I am the initiator of my actions, is a basic and constant underpinning of our interaction with the world. Whereas several accounts have underlined predictive processes as the central mechanism (e.g., the comparator model by C. Frith), others emphasized postdictive inferences (e.g., post-hoc inference account by D. Wegner). Based on increasin...
